Care Home Open day is a national event and is all about linking communities . It’s a chance to celebrate all the different people, cultures and relationships in our area and to show our community that care homes are friendly, happy and exciting places to be . It’s a great way to get to know , organisations , groups in our community and establish meaningful friendships . Mark Menzies MP has kindly accepted the invitation to attend and we are inviting local councillors and representatives from local religious groups and organisations such as age concern .
The Founder of Lakeview rest homes – Rose Marie Wood ( sadly passed away this year ) founded Lakeview rest home group thirty years ago with her husband Peter Wood after visiting a friend who had moved into a care home , and realised her friend deserved better than sharing a bedroom with 3 other people and having to go down a corridor to queue for the toilet . The environment was shabby , the smell unpleasant and there was little to interest or stimulate residents . Rose and her husband Peter were passionate about making a difference , so they decided to open their own care home, determined to lead the way by creating a home where residents would feel , safe , secure and cared for in a way we would all want for ourselves or our loved ones . They eventually opened four residential care homes in the area .
Thirty years later their early ethos continues to this day . It is simple, effective and encapsulates their thoughts on what makes our service different .
- The residents are the heart of our service
- Our residents and their families deserve the best that is on offer .
- A good organisation needs good people
The Wood family continue to invest in all four of their care homes, and sons Pete and Nick have taken over the reins and continue the same family ethos .
We can organise a chiropodist , podiatrist and physiotherapist to visit our home.
Fabulous trips to Garden centres, cafes, parks and gardens in our Lakeview Minibus.
Residents take trips in our two Vintage Cars .
Residents frequently visit our other three homes for garden parties , entertainment and events .
A full activity programme has been designed for each resident such as :
Arm chair aerobics , dominoes/ card and craft sessions.
We have a dedicated activity coordinator Julie Fishwick , who is open to all ideas you may have .
