It's Care Home Open Day...

... and we're celebrating in style at HenPower and the many care homes we work with across the country, with role play, musicians, visual artists and a whole load of hens to henergise our older people!

What more could you want? This year's emphasis was on the arts and valuing staff. HenPower's core values all year round to "henrich" people's lives.

This year, we held a chicken sing along at Comfort House in Denton, Newcastle upon Tyne, where the ŒComfort Choir¹ hummed as musicians strummed to the strings of the chookulele! Œ'My Old Hen¹ and Œ'There Ain¹t Nobody Here But Us Chickens¹ all firm favourites with a bit of participation on strings from Bob, one of the residents.

We ran visual arts in Eastwood Promoting Independence Centre in Heworth, Gateshead, where everyone from the cook, the cleaner to the physiotherapist joined in, building positive links between residents and staff and sharing skills to enable staff to replicate arts sessions throughout the week to benefit their residents.

Wood Green ran a hen road show in Newburn Manor Primary School, Newcastle, teaching little people how to care for their newly hatched chicks. Building bridges between the generations is key to HenPower. Alan Richards, active older volunteer says "In working with HenPower, I¹ve made friends through hens with people from four to ninety four".

The ladies of Wood Green meanwhile were cock-a-hoop and ,shook their tail feathers with an active movement session. They invited their feathered friends indoors for a closer look so that they could really get to grips with developing their own funky chicken moves.

And finally, here¹s a link to our award winning film Œ'The Hen Men¹ http://vimeo.com/104084628 <http://vimeo.com/104084628
